Ability to see which transcripts and images already bought
We have turned on a nice little piece of functionality that shows you on the search results page whether you have already paid for an image or transcript. This allows you easily to see images and transcripts that you have already viewed and therefore makes it easier to know exactly when you are about to be charged. It also helps you not look at things you’ve already checked!
Anything that you have already paid for is marked as “PAID”. Anything that you are about to be charged for has the number of credits displayed on the button itself.
Incidentally, for those of you who want to be ultra-cautious about clicking and spending credits by accident (it’s easy to get carried away), you can ask the website to double-check each time it is about to charge you some credits. Just go into “my account” and tick the box marked “Warn me before each use of credits”.
Just to reassure you - the website will never charge you twice to view a transcript or an original page that you have already paid for. It is just that we have now made it clear on the buttons themselves where you have already paid for something.
We hope that makes life easier!

i keep asking customer services, maybe i can get an answer here.
If I pay for the original image, do I get to see the transcription for the same price please? From the page there is a button to click, but will I be charged another 10 credits for that? I hope not, this site is expensive enough and with all the errors hard to search. I have only done about 5 and have reported errors on them all. But I cant afford all originals.
Thanks.

@pen - Yes, you have to pay an additional 10 credits - this is made clear on the button. The idea is that you use transcripts to establish whether the original page is actually the one you are looking for.
You should always use the original page rather than the transcript as the source of truth but the transcript is the finding aid for them.

I used a tarnscript to find my great great grandfather as I found what seemed to be him but he was from scotland (Kincardineshire) and wasa a draper. I tried searching on all of these but they didnt produce the person i found so went for the transcript and luckily its the person im after.
Havent purchased the original image yet, to see if its a transcription problem that made it difficult or whether my great great grandfather was not very clear in his writing.
Transcript has Berven instead of Bervie and Kencardinesh instead of Kincardineshire and traveller drapery instead rather than Draper.
But my great grandfather was also from Bervie Kincardineshire and this has been transcribed correctly suggesting my great great grandfathers handwriting is at fault.

I have paid for 3 originals but now I can’t get into the site to see them or search for any more. I believe I’m getting the COMMON problem of a request to “enable cookies” (they have been enabled all along!) instead of being able to login. No meaningful response yet from technical support. As you say, you are a week into the site launch: why not get the existing functionality right first before turning on anything else?
I’ve rebooted the PC several times, cleared the cache but I’ve still been beaten by the site’s inherent weakness. Instead of boasting about how many hits you’ve had, how about some comments about the number complaints like mine - or at least some attempt to address them?

In the information about prices it states, with reference to the original images:
“For this price you will also be able to view all the associated images for the family: this includes both sides of the household form ( RG 14)”
So far I have only seen one side of the form. What is on the other side?
Along the same lines what constitutes the RG14 for an institution? At the moment if you find an individual in the middle of a list of inmates and not on the first page or wherever the address and other related information is to be seen, then you have to pay an extra 30 credits for each original page, or 10 credits for the transcript. You can’t ‘jump’ to the first or header page. In any case this is not giving us “all the associated images for the family” (ie the inmates).

@Ian: We will shortly be releasing 2 more images from the RG14 (Household Schedule) - the back of the form and the cover of the actual volume they were stored in. At the same time we will release up to 5 images for the RG78 (Enumerators Book) relating to that household.
All these extra images will be included within the 30 credit cost - users who have already bought an Original page will be able to return to get the extra images at no cost. Our current best estimate for the release of these images is April.

@iantester: Are these additional images available yet? If so, how can I access them?
