Scanning of all English counties complete: 15.1m images

Just to let you know that we have now scanned all English counties and have started on Wales. We anticipate that the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, and Durham will be available by the end of March. Happy St David’s day!

UPDATE: 3/3/09 To the end of February, we have scanned 15.1million images, 93% of total. This leaves 1million (or 7%) to go. We should finish scanning at Kew In April. Compare the number of images to the 1901 census at 1.5 million images - it is over 10 times larger!

Thank you for letting us know.

I know we all seem an ungrateful lot, but we do appreciate your hard work.

    Honestly!!.

I cannot wait to get into my Yorkshire lot, at last……

Great news, can’t wait to spend some more money. Let’s hope the availability is spot on or close so on a personal note I can do some more research before I arrive in the UK to do some hands-on research.

Thanks to all at findmypast / 1911census

  5. Paul Says:

    What about Northumberland?

  6. iantester Says:

@Paul: definitely in April, possibly in March. We are nearing completion on all English counties.

  7. Tom Harrison Says:

When you index 1921 please start with :-
    1. East Riding
    2. Durham
    3 Lincoln

  8. iantester Says:

@Tom: Thanks for the suggestion. I suspect others may have differing views! However, it’s not likely to be something we come back to before 2019 unless there is a change in the law in the meantime.

  9. Dorothy Says:

Great work and well done but although a long way off Please give northern counties a break and let us be first nex time as we always are last.

  10. Kat Says:

Thanks for all the hard work so far, much appreciated!
Can I ask when Cumberland will be available please? I’m saving my credits for that and I’m afraid they will expire before it’s available. Any news? Or any chance of existing credits being extended until it’s all online? The info on the site is a little confusing as to which counties are and are not available (or at least it is to me and my small brain!)
    Thanks!

  11. iantester Says:

@Dorothy: next time will not be for another 12 years ;-)

@Kat: Cumberland should be available by end of April, as will all outstanding English counties. Best way to check what is there and what not is simply to look at the “County” dropdown field on the search page. 90 day credits due to expire will be extended soon - details to follow.

  12. Helen Says:

Bit confused about when Wales gets a look in here! After thought as usual!

  13. Liz Says:

I’m glad work has started on scanning Wales. So we have an idea of timescales, does it take many months to move from the scanning stage to placing the records online?
